XFINITY: Matt DiBenedetto ties Green for 2016 XFINITY last-place lead

SOURCE: Rubbin's Racin' Forums
Matt DiBenedetto picked up the 6th last-place finish of his NASCAR XFINITY Series career in Saturday’s rain-shortened  Pocono Green 250 at the Pocono Raceway when his unsponsored #10 TriStar Motorsports Toyota fell out with transmission issues after he completed 6 of 53 laps.

The finish, which came in DiBenedetto’s 55th series start, was his fourth of the season, his second in a row, and now ties him with all-time last-place leader and co-driver Jeff Green for the 2016 LASTCAR XFINITY Series lead.

With rain threatening all weekend, DiBenedetto did not participate in either of Thursday’s opening practices, but still managed to put down the 21st-fastest lap in qualifying at 166.976 mph - the best start by TriStar’s #10 all season.  He and the other 39 entrants all made the race following the withdrawals of Jeb Burton, whose #43 entry from Richard Petty Motorsports was pulled on Wednesday after sponsor J. Streicher & Company stopped paying the team, and the #77 Vroom! Brands Chevrolet, a proposed second entry from Obaika Racing to join Alex Guenette in the flagship #97.

The 40th starting spot went to Roush-Fenway’s Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, Jr., whose #6 LoudMouth Exhaust Ford did not complete a lap in qualifying after he spun off Turn 1.  As Wallace flew up through the pack, eventually coming home 16th, DiBenedetto pulled behind the wall under green.

39th went to Justin Allgaier, whose #7 Suave Men / Shop ‘N Save Chevrolet smacked the outside wall in Turn 2.  38th-place Carl Long lost the brakes on his unsponsored #40 Carl Long Motorsports Toyota after 21 laps.  37th went to Derrike Cope, who threatened for 40th when his #70 Glen Brown Trucking / E-Hydrate Chevrolet went behind the wall early with a dropped cylinder, but he finished under power, 31 laps behind.  Rounding out the group was Josh Wise, whose #93 RSS Racing Chevrolet is the only other XFINITY Series team with more than one last-place finish in 2016.

LASTCAR STATISTICS
*This is the first time the #10 has finished last in one of NASCAR’s top three divisions at Pocono since August 4, 2012 when Jennifer Jo Cobb’s Driven2Honor.org RAM lost an engine without completing a lap in the Pocono Mountains 125.  The number hasn’t trailed a Cup field at Pocono since July 24, 1983, when Clark Dwyer’s Kings Inn Chevrolet lost oil pressure after 6 laps of the Like Cola 500.
